{"id":41459,"date":"2023-11-22T15:24:05","date_gmt":"2023-11-22T15:24:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lenda.net\/international\/?p=41459"},"modified":"2023-11-22T15:30:05","modified_gmt":"2023-11-22T15:30:05","slug":"lenda-vet-cat-renal-the-solution-to-kidney-problems-in-cats","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lenda.net\/international\/lenda-vet-cat-renal-the-solution-to-kidney-problems-in-cats\/","title":{"rendered":"Lenda VET Cat Renal: the solution to kidney problems in cats"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-32bb721d12d6decd59b9fa3a062e1886\"><strong>Renal problems in cats<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-b4ef72285bb469f7e5458dc066c92c34\">Kidney problems in cats and more specifically Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is one of the most frequent pathologies in the daily veterinary clinic, affecting up to 20% of cats, especially elderly cats, as the kidneys deteriorate with age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-a3a3ef427b84c003ddf9bb54e7d7564e\">The functionality of the kidneys is altered and they lose the ability to <strong>filter the blood correctly<\/strong> and <strong>eliminate waste in the urine<\/strong>, so it happens that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The osmotic and acid-base balance is disturbed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Waste is not eliminated correctly<\/strong> and accumulates in the blood, which can damage other organs.<br>Some necessary nutrients are eliminated, as the filtering process fails, so the animal is not properly nourished and its health is affected.<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:21px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-48cb9229847efb333b1ea63feb76b810\">Causes may include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Old age: most common, due to natural deterioration of the organ.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Urinary tract problems: blocked by the presence of stones, urinary tract disease, infection or inflammation.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Kidney tumour: resulting in failure of kidney function.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Trauma: blow or injury to the area affecting the organ or other adjacent organs, such as rupture of the bladder or urinary ducts.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Poisoning affecting the kidney<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Medications toxic to the kidney<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Genetics: hereditary predisposition to suffer from the pathology, which usually affects breeds such as Maine coon, Abyssinian, Siamese, Russian blue or Burmese.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:21px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"900\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/lenda.net\/international\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/problemas-renales-en-gatos-jpg.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-41460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lenda.net\/international\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/problemas-renales-en-gatos-jpg.webp 900w, https:\/\/lenda.net\/international\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/problemas-renales-en-gatos-jpg-300x100.webp 300w, https:\/\/lenda.net\/international\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/problemas-renales-en-gatos-jpg-768x256.webp 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-b5177c019acc58a1f371db10f3ba2c52\"><strong>Initially it is difficult to detect<\/strong> unless a blood test is done, as there are no symptoms, which is the main handicap of the disease, because when symptoms appear it is already advanced and it is late.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-805fea8d7287959aa80fc8d76037f637\">The blood is not filtered correctly and waste products begin to accumulate in the organism, producing azotemia (accumulation of urea and creatinine), this being the acute phase of the disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-086d83ba5b993af07ac881a37b5cc6a2\">Later, and usually when the disease is already in the chronic phase, is when symptoms usually appear:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Anorexia: weight loss<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Apathy and tiredness<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dry and dull hair<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Polydipsia: excessive and constant thirst. Heavy drinking.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Polyuria: frequent and abundant urination<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Vomiting and constipation<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>High blood pressure<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:28px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-91388e9f9b4f272b1c1048d6b5a00535\">Gradually the kidney&#8217;s condition worsens, more and more waste products (urea and creatinine) accumulate in the blood, the blood becomes acidified and the concentration of minerals and nutrients is altered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-28fbed3bad482761cc9fe5a981ecfffe\">It is at this point that it is usually detected and unfortunately it is already irreversible, the healthy part of the kidney\/s has been working excessively for some time to compensate for the deficiency, resulting in overload and with a great loss of functionality when the disease is detected.
